Okay, I told my hgh school library tht crossroad was a great series, and the librarian told me that he'd look at it.

He looked at it, all right. XD He zoomed in on volume 4's cover.

Apparently girls clinging onto unwilling guys isn't allowed...

As a matter of fact, the same thing happened with The Devil Within, Afterschool Nightmare, Tenshi Ja Nai!! and pretty much all the titles except Cantarella and Hikkatsu.

But our librarian is the one who wore a t-shirt with a bikini girl on it. XDDD

Looks like our library doesn't like you, go comi...

Even if your librarian didn't mind the cover, I suspect he would have rejected Crossroad because of the various romances.  High school libraries are becoming increasingly wary of romances that are considered unconventional.

Eh, not ours.  We have Homosexual, lesbian, necrophiliaa and transgender romance.  So, I don't think that would be a problem...

Necrophilia?  What book(s) are you referring to?  o_O  And why does your library stock them?

I'm hooked into a vast network of librarians, so I rolled up my sleeves and looked into this matter for you.  You can protest your librarian's decision -- even the decision of a high school librarian.

Audry's Crash Course on Getting Libraries to Carry What YOU Want!

Except in the case of private schools, libraries are run on public funds.  You and/or your parents provide those funds via taxes, so YOU have a right to influence what books your local library chooses to carry.

Be aware that every time you check out a book, you are bumping up its "circulation number" -- and the books or series with the highest circulation numbers are the ones most likely to be re-ordered (or have later volumes purchased if they're a series).

Most libraries have staff members specifically hired to select which
books to carry as part of their job.  Most of them allow the needs of
the local community to influence their purchases, rather than just
picking books by personal preference or bias.  Just because someone is employed by a library does not mean they have the right to decide whether or not a book should be stocked.

When you ask for your local public or school library to stock something, make sure you are talking to the person who has been hired to make selections for the graphic novel section.

If you make a request and the librarian you spoke to denies that request, ask them for a reason.  Then tell them (or another librarian, if necessary) that you want to speak to the library's Director.  The Director can often trump the decision of a lower staff member, so speak to them about the request you made, why you feel it is an appropriate one for you and the library.  If you feel the librarian denied your request for an unfair or inappropriate reason, make sure to tell the Director what that reason was.

In the case of a high school library, if the librarian you spoke to does not have a superior you can speak to, you may have to go to a teacher or the Principal -- whoever that librarian or the library itself answers to.  If the librarian won't tell you who that is, just start asking all the library staff, your teachers and everyone in the Administrative Office until someone tells you.

If your library already stocks other books with similar content to the one rejected, make sure you point them out.  It would be unfair of a library to stock, say, a YA novel with sex and drugs it in and then deny a manga series that has no sex but some kissing, for example.

Here is the likely chain of command for your school library.  Don't be afraid to go to the very top if you are determined to get manga stocked in your library:

building librarian
building principal
district collector (if
applicable)
district coordinator
district superintendent
district board
of ed

Remember that even in middle and high school libraries, the law is often on the side of the reader, not the library or school!  Check this link out:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Island_Trees_School_District_v._Pico

BTW, if a librarian staff member who was not hired to select books denies your request (if they pretend to have authority they don't), they could get into legal trouble.  Most library policies prohibit non-selection staff members from denying a request.

If you can't afford to buy manga, haven't got the room for it, or just loooove reading at the library, then ask your local public and/or school library to stock the manga you want to read!  They are there to provide a service to you and your community, regardless of your age, and you have every right in the world to ask them to stock the books you want to read.

Now having said all that, I have to say one thing for the sake of librarians everywhere -- they have budgets.  They are assigned a specific budget for all graphic novels and comics based on the money available to that library.  They cannot stock every single manga on the market, so sometimes they will have to favor a more popular series over a less popular one, or they will have to wait until they can fit a new series in the budget.  But don't let that stop you from at least asking for them to put your favorite manga on their buy list!

EDIT:  P.S. At public libraries, you can also ask to fill out an official "request for purchase" form.

Actually I was thinking about the *SPOILER* [teacher - student relationship which is a hot button point for schools nowadays and the quasi-incestous step-siblings relationship]. (Highlight to read spoiler.)

However, I'm happy to hear that your librarian has changed his mind and has agreed to carry Crossover.  Good job in convincing him!
